Krabi is blessed with superb transport connections – it’s modern International Airport Terminal that boasts shopping (no duty free), restaurant, currency exchange and ATM facilities, is conveniently located around 5 miles from bustling Krabi Town, approximately 17 miles from tourist favourite Ao Nang and just over 40 miles from the stunning island paradise of Ko Lanta.

Although there are as yet, no direct flights to Krabi from the UK, flights from Bangkok to Krabi are extremely regular and take just over one hour. There is a good selection of airlines that fly from the UK to Bangkok including Thai Airways, British Airways, Quantas and budget air carrier, Eva Air and you can fly from most major UK airports such as London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. Thai airways also offer connecting flights to Krabi, whilst both Bangkok Airways and on-line airline Tiger Airways offer a direct service between Bangkok and Krabi. Regulated taxis that offer fixed-rate fares are plentiful at Krabi airport or you can take advantage of the reliable buses that service all the main tourists resorts including Ao Nang. It’s worth checking if your Krabi villa or hotel offers complimentary airport transfers before shelling out for a taxi though, as many of the mid to high end resorts in Krabi provide this service.

If you plan to drive, several car rental firms, including National, Avis and Budget, are represented at the airport, but remember if you pre-book you will almost certainly get a better deal!

Flights to Phuket

Flights to Phuket International Airport are often significantly cheaper and more numerous than to Krabi. As it’s just two hours by car from Krabi, flying to Phuket is a sensible option for those travelling on a small budget.


An even cheaper way to reach Krabi from the Thai capital, is to a book a seat on one of the surprisingly comfortable, air conditioned buses. Bangkok southern bus terminal to Krabi Town takes between 10 – 12 hours and, in addition to saving money, allows you to enjoy some spectacular scenery along the route.


Krabi itself, does not benefit from a direct train service, but if you want to travel from Bangkok by rail, you can always hop on a train to neighbouring Surat Thani province and continue your journey by bus or taxi.


If your hotel or resort is located on one of the stunning Krabi islands, then you will need to complete your journey by ferry. These operate regular services from several points along the mainland including Ao Nang and Krabi Town, to Railay (although not strictly speaking an island, Railay is only accessible by boat) Ko Phi Phi, Ko Lanta, Ko Lao and Ko Jum.
