The Khlong Thom Museum is home to a number of artifacts unearthed in nearby areas that prove the existence of the Southern Silk Route through Krabi, Thailand. Most of the artifacts tell Khlong Thom’s story of when it was a major port, trading and manufacturing center. The relics include Roman glass and stone beads, pieces of pottery, official seals, ship fragments, and tools and utensils dating from the second through the 7th century. New laws regulating sale of alcohol effective immediately in Thailand

New laws regulating the sale of alcohol in Thailand is effective immediately. The Prime Minister’s Office made the announcement on January 24 that alcoholic beverages can only be sold from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. daily. Mr. Samarn Futrakun, Director General of the Office of the Alcohol Control Committee stated that the total amount of hours in a day that alcohol can be purchased is capped at 10 hours. Krabi villagers upset over coal-fired power plant plans

Environmentalists and Krabi villagers are upset over plans of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to build an 870-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Krabi, across Phang Nga Bay. The local fishermen object to the coal pier for fear it could have a negative environmental impact on their livelihood. About 300 households in the area depend on fishing to make a living.
