China’s Lucky Air now flying direct to Krabi International Airport in Thailand

Yunnan Lucky Air, a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines, recently announced new direct flights from Kunming, capital of southwest China’s Yunnan’s Province, to Krabi, a resort area of great natural beauty on Thailand’s Andaman Sea.

The airlines began three scheduled flights per week on February 11, 2015. Flight #8L9639 departs each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 00:15, arriving at the Krabi International Airport at 02:00.  Return flight #8L9640 departs Krabi at 0:300, returning to Kunming at 06:45. All times cited are local.

Ton Loriers, Managing Director of Krabi Riviera Villa Company, and Ton Company, Ltd., a holiday villa construction, property management, and rental company in Krabi, Thailand said, “This new air route from China will cut the travel time between the two areas by approximately two hours and forty-five minutes. That’s an incredible incentive for traveling here.”

To meet the demand of the almost 4.7 million Chinese tourists visiting the country, China Eastern Airlines, Shanghai Airlines and Sabaidee Airways also have regular flights connecting the Krabi with cities in China.

Additional International Flights to Krabi, Thailand

Because of Krabi’s increased popularity as a holiday destination for international travelers, other airline companies have created new flights to the resort area as well.

AirAsia announced a new direct route in November 2014 connecting mainland China with Krabi, Thailand, with flights originating from Guangzhou. The airlines already had daily flights between Singapore and Krabi, and between Chiang Mai and Krabi to meet the growing tourist demand.

Finnair, based in Helsinki, Finland began flights to Krabi in December 2014, and Firefly, Malaysia’s premium short-haul airliner, also announced Krabi, Thailand as a brand new destination.

Other airlines providing direct round-trip flights to Krabi from various locations within Asia include Tiger Airways, Malaysia Airways, and Bangkok Airways.

Bangkok and Garuda Airways Codesharing

In December 2014, Bangkok Airways and the national airline of Indonesia, Garuda Airlines announced their codeshare agreement for selected flights to Thailand. This agreement allows both airlines to sell seats on each other’s flights, using their own flight numbers. With increased demand for flights to Krabi from Bangkok, this agreement makes it very easy for Indonesian tourists to catch a plane to Krabi from Bangkok.
